Apple iOS 18 Set to Integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT Features Deal

A recent report from Bloomberg reveals that Apple is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with OpenAI. This collaboration aims to integrate OpenAI’s technology into the upcoming iPhone 16 series, slated for release later this year. As part of the agreement, Apple plans to introduce a chatbot powered by ChatGPT, enriching its AI offerings within iOS 18.

While discussions with Google about a potential AI partnership are ongoing, Apple is close to sealing the deal with OpenAI. Simultaneously, Apple is exploring a collaboration with Baidu, often referred to as China’s Google, to enhance generative AI features specifically for iPhones in the Chinese market.

While specific technical details and features of the OpenAI integration remain undisclosed, more information is anticipated to be unveiled during Apple’s WWDC 2024 developer conference scheduled for June.

Renowned for credible insights into Apple’s activities, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported:

The two sides have been finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation is private. Apple also has held talks with Alphabet Inc.’s Google about licensing that company’s Gemini chatbot. Those discussions haven’t led to an agreement, but are ongoing.

The report cautions that the confirmation of a deal between Apple and OpenAI may not be imminent.

Additionally, a report from Thursday emphasized that certain AI functionalities of iOS 18 will be powered by Apple data centers utilizing Apple Silicon processors. However, the majority of AI features within iOS 18 will function exclusively on-device. This approach will allow Apple to highlight benefits in terms of privacy and speed.
